Sun rays: 2, Yankees: 1 – Clutch system HRs fuel Rays win

Following a disappointing and frustrating 4-3 reduction, the Rays will look to come back against Masahiro Tanaka by delivering Blake Snell on the mound; the rematch of an equally frustrating reduction on Sunday where nothing strange happened.
Remember when the Rays away scored opponents in the 1st inning? That didn’t happen. Masahiro Tanaka started the game where he left away from on Sunday, striking out most three batters he faced within the 1st inning.
Rays did appear to get to him a little better this particular game, with a few singles scattered here and there, but the Rays couldn’t be able to Tanaka at all. It also didn’t assist that the ump was giving Tanaka all the calls on the edge.
Just 2 of those pitches were thrown on.
The first run of the video game came via an wild presentation. Snell got himself into a few trouble with back to back strikes by Brett Gardner and DISC JOCKEY LeMaheiu and a Luke Voit stroll loaded the bases with just one out. Snell got out of it (somewhat) with a strikeout of Aaron Hicks and Gary Sanchez, but the wild pitch scored Gardner plus made it 1-0 Rays.
Snell appeared great other wise going six. 0 IP with 6 They would, 1 BB, 9 K, one R. He did have some assist thanks to this slick play simply by Wily Adames.

Hech of a playDominik Vega

For every action there is an equivalent and opposite reaction right? I believe that law of physics might be applied to the Rays luck this season. The Rays had that excellent play by Adames, and in the particular 6th inning Snell threw exactly what should’ve been an easy play to obtain Aaron Hicks out, but wound up throwing it away and enabling Hicks to make it to 2nd along with only 1 out.
Snell was able to obtain Sanchez to strikeout on a reduced 96 mph FB, and a individual by Gleybar Torres almost obtained Hicks from 2nd.
Almost.

Freakin laserDominik Vega

Austin Meadows having a throw on the money to nab Aaron Hicks, and keep the Rays inside 1 .
That seemed to be the level. The Rays didn’t get to see Tanaka in the 7th (finally) and it just took two pitches for them to connect it.
Combination of Chaz Roe plus Adam Kolerk would get through the seventh, and keep the score tied. Sun rays didn’t really have any other opportunities, since none of the ground balls hit away from Tommy Kahnle and Zach Britton (after the B. Lowe) HUMAN RESOURCES left the infield.
Emilo Questionnable took over for the 8th, and set in the Yankees hitters well. Despite quitting an Aaron Hicks single, Questionnable got the top of the Yankees purchase to strike out, including an attractive pitch sequence of Luke Voit, who after being ahead within the count 2-0, was searching fastball, obtained three fastballs, and swung by means of all of them.
Rays had to face Aroldis Chapman in the 9th, which rofl getting a hit against him.
Plus Kevin Cash decided to bring Emilio Pagan out for the bottom of the ninth in a tie game against the Yankees to face Gleybar Torres, Gio “Albert Pujols” Urshela, and Cameron Maybin.
Torres struck out. Urshela flied out to deep center, but not right after an impressive battle, going 12 pitches.
And got Maybin to hit out, sending this game in order to extras, where the Rays are not fortunate going 0-4 in extra innings.
Besides the Lowe HR, the Sun rays hitters have been forgettable, with the Yankees’ Johnathan Holder making very quick function of the Rays in the 10th inning, retiring Garcia, Kiermaier, and Adames on the same amount of pitches that it accepted get Gio Urshella out within the 9th.
Rays’ bats came still living in the 11th inning when Austin tx Meadows took an inside pitch plus blasted it out of the park to have the Rays a 2-1 lead.
Your own browser does not support HTML5 video clip.
Getting the lead is one thing. Maintaining the lead is another. Rays not just are 0-4 in extra innings. They are 2-8 in 1 operate games.
BUCKLE UP
Showing belief in is closer, Kevin Money would go to Jose Alvarado, who else had. 2 IP on twenty six pitches and gave up a 2-run lead in last nights 4-3 loss.
1st batter: Luke Voit – Single (Thario Estrada would certainly pinch run)
2nd Batter: Aaron Hicks – Strikeout
3rd Mixture: Gary Sanchez – Grounded in to double play. Around the Horn Diaz to Lowe to Choi
WHEW. Big confidence booster for Alvarado, Rays win 2-1 and are in 1st place with a half online game lead.
Charlie Morton will look to have the series win agains the Yankees tomorrow. Game time is one: 05 PM.

The particular Tampa Bay Rays have turned on right-handed pitcher Hunter Wood from the 10-day Injured List and have optioned right-handed pitcher Austin Pruitt in order to Triple-A Durham.

Sun rays 3, Yankees 4: Jose Alvarado couldn’t close this one out

Starting the weekend series in The Bronx, the Rays looked to start the particular series on the right foot contrary to the second place Yankees. With a zero. 5 game lead in the department, the 26-15 Rays turned to opener Ryne Stanek to start this sport against CC Sabathia and the Yankees.
Ryne Stanek threw two innings to open the game and after a hitless first inning where Stanek hit out one, Kendrys Morales place the Yankees on the scoreboard early having a loud home run to right industry in the second. This would be the only operate that Stanek would allow, but it provided the Yankees an early 1-0 prospect.
Stanek struck out two batters in the second inning to total 3 strikeouts after 26 pitches tossed, with 14 of those pitches becoming strikes. Yonny Chirinos was summoned upon to throw the bulk of the particular innings in the third inning, plus from the first pitch in his getaway, Chirinos handled the Yankees selection well.
Travis d’Arnaud recorded their first hit as a Ray within the second inning, sending a golf ball perfectly in-between the gloves associated with infielders Gleyber Torres and DISC JOCKEY LeMahieu.

In the top of the fourth inning, on the very first pitch thrown simply by Sabathia, Willy Adames returned the sinker into the left field bleachers to tie the game up for the particular Rays, 1-1. With an exit speed of 94 mph and a start angle of 30 degrees, that will ball had an expected batting typical of only. 200, but it had been hit just hard enough to put the particular Rays on the board.
With a jogger on second in the bottom from the sixth inning, Avisail Garcia created a huge catch to end the inning, preventing the go-ahead run to rating for the Yankees.

Chirinos would be upon cruise control throughout his trip, not allowing any runs prior to turning it over to the Rays bullpen along with two outs in the bottom from the seventh. Adam Kolarek was asked to pitch against Brett Gardner, and Kolarek quickly got the particular out to end the inning.
Chirinos worked four and two thirds innings and did a very reputable job after throwing 68 pitches, not allowing any runs whilst striking out two. 45 of these pitches were strikes, and Chirinos did not walk anybody while getting the work done in neutralizing the Yankees selection. Kolarek pitched to only one mixture before handing the ball to Diego Castillo to pitch the particular eighth inning.
Before Castillo had taken the ball in the bottom half the inning, the Rays criminal offense left their mark on the online game in the top half of the 8th. Daniel Robertson doubled to correct field with one out within the inning, and Brandon Lowe went Robertson home to give the Rays the 2-1 lead.
With Lowe upon second base, Kevin Kiermaier legged out an infield single plus forced an errant throw simply by Gleyber Torres, throwing the basketball out of play and scoring Lowe to extend the Rays’ lead to 3-1.

Diego Castillo would take the pile in the bottom of the eighth, and the midst of a heavy rain storm, threw only two pitches prior to the game entered a rain postpone. Keep in mind that unlike Tropicana Field, Yankee Stadium does not have a roof, plus therefor a rain delay such as this is possible, unfortunately. If only the Yankees played in a dome.
After a good approximately 35 minute rain hold off, play resumed and Diego Castillo made quick work of the Yankees lineup to end the eighth. Jose Alvarado was summoned upon in order to close this game out, plus Alvarado did just that. Or at least, that may be what I had typed when the video game was still 3-1.
Luke Voit homered to bring the Yankees inside one, and a couple of base strikes and a wild pitch by Alvarado evened the game up at 3. Gio Urshela walked it away from with a hit into deep middle field to close this one to the Yankees. Alvarado did not look great from the very first pitch of their outing, and his final pitch was your dagger on the Rays’ division prospect.
In a game that seemed like the win through eight innings, the particular Rays dropped a big division video game in a way that really stings. The middle video game of the series takes place tomorrow from 1 pm with Blake Snell on the mound for the Rays, dealing with Masahiro Tanaka and the Yankees.

Sun rays playoff odds are still good

You might feel that the Tampa Bay Sun rays have been stuck in neutral right after beginning the season hot out of the door. After starting 14-4 the Sun rays have gone 12-11 and are seated at 26-15.
The good news is the Sun rays still sit atop the United states League East standings with a zero. 5 game lead over the Ny Yankees and 4. 0 online games ahead of the Boston Red Sox.
Collection against the Kansas City Royals that will ended up 4-3 and the Baltimore Orioles that ended up 3-2 have left the sour taste in the mouth associated with Rays fans after the blistering begin.
But that hot start place the team in the position they desired to be as we head into the season’s second quarter.
FanGraphs has the Sun rays with a 73. 0% chance of producing the playoffs. Baseball Prospectus has got the Rays odds at 83. 3%. Baseball Reference came out with playoff projections last week and have the Sun rays chances at 89. 8%. In comparison, their pre-season odds of making the particular playoffs were put at 25-33%.
The Rays have played properly and now they are having to deal with some difficulty with Tyler Glasnow going on the particular injured list along with seemingly each catcher the Rays have on the 40 man roster.
The Yankees and Red Sox aren’t likely to just roll over and give the department to the Rays. The American Little league East is sure to be hotly competitive. It currently looks to be a 3 way race with different systems forecasting different outcomes.
Median outcomes within win totals is very unlikely to become enough for any of the three groups.
Head to head games are going to be very important because the season plays out. That will sparkle a spotlight on the upcoming collection at Yankee Stadium where the Sun rays seek to avenge their collection loss at the Trop last weekend break.

Who else could the Rays acquire in order to fill in for Tyler Glasnow?

Tyler Glasnow was in the middle of a large, and the Rays were in start, when he removed himself from the game. Right now the prognosis can be 4-6 weeks on the shelf having a forearm strain.
That leaves an enormous hole in the Rays nonstandard harrassing rotation, as Glasnow was carrying out at a level that’s truly priceless. But the innings will still have to be replaced, and there are a few ways to start doing that.
Danny already leaped down the most likely internal options, plus we’ve already seen some of that will happening. In the immediate term, Jalen Beeks is getting stetched out a little more, Yonny Chirinos will continue to message starter innings, and Ryan Yarbrough will likely soon return to the majors — also more stretched out, and maybe nearer his 2018 form. Casey Sadler has performed well up to now, and he too could see their innings bumped up.
If most of continues to go well with Jose De Leon’s rehab, he could relieve some of the innings load fairly soon, and Brendan McKay could always be put on a good accelerated prospect timeline.
I’d exactly like to add one name to the listing of internal options–Luis Santos was obtained on a minor league contract for circumstances like this, and he’s pitched half way decent in Durham, with a 3. 00/3. 66/4. 67 ERA/FIP/xFIP. He’s not really on the 40-man roster, and not defeating down the door, but he’s within the mix if other options fail plus an extra bulk guy becomes neccessary.
But what if the Rays proceed outside the organization? What could the particular Rays do via trade or even free agency? Here’s who the particular DRaysBay staff are looking at:
JT Morgan: If the Rays make an inclusion it’ll be something that is clearly one step ahead of the bulk guys at this time. If this takes longer than the 4-6 7 days timeline for Tyler Glasnow to come back, then there will be a few reasonable choices that could be available. No team is preparing to sell the kind of piece that would can even make the Rays better.
The only practical option before July is Based in dallas Keuchel, but just barely.
It would be from character for the Rays to give up the particular 40th overall pick, so jooxie is looking at three weeks until they will make that move, once the set up is done. Then, after a start or even two in the minors against reside batters to get in game setting, he likely wouldn’t be available to assist the MLB team until Glasnow is scheduled to return.
By then, the particular Rays will have more information on how Glasnow’s recovery is going and, that will make this particular move more or less likely to occur. When the Rays are really looking to get somebody that the actual current team better then it is the only reasonable option.
Danny Russell:
Madison Bumgarner is underperforming.
Their 4. 04 ERA (which will be league average) is more of an mistake message when running his a few. 43 FIP and 3. forty eight xFIP out there. His strikeout price is up to above 25%, his stroll rate is down to 3. 5%, and his fastball velocity is well-known up. It’s just a lousy sixty four. 5% LOB rate depressing their overall results, which seems a lot more like happenstance in the early run compared to anything else.
The four-time All-Star plus three-time World Series champion is within the last year of his contract, plus owed $12 million this season. Obtaining him now would put the Sun rays on the hook for just a portion of the salary, which is not a big deal for just one of the lowest payrolls in football.
In trying to read the room in the trade value (and to reduce a conversation had amongst the masthead), our consensus is that it might take a trade package in the community of what Yu Darvish has been traded for a few years back to land Bumgarner.

That deal was infielder Willie Calhoun, pitcher A. L. Alexy, and infielder Brendon Davis. Of that batch, only Calhoun was obviously a top-100 prospect, and he was in the particular 75-100 range. In other words, a potential client that projects as an average, daily player (50 FV), but not a single pushing the top-50 prospects associated with baseball.
Translated into Rays prospective customers, that means Nick Solak, Christian Arroyo, or possibly Lucius Fox as the headliner, with some interesting lower prospects included. The Rays could also offer Ca native Daniel Robertson (who is just not a free agent until 2024) in order to anchor the deal.
There’s a little bit of paradox there, with Arroyo and Sibel being former San Francisco Giants prospective customers, but the Rays are in a position in order to deal from their middle infield level, and with each of those pieces versatile enough to meet future needs, I believe this is an easy deal for the 2 now-familiar trade partners to complete.
Ian Malinowski: JT and I spend a lot of your time violently agreeing, but I actually argue with him here about the improve needing to be better than the current mass guys. The issue isn’t with Chirinos, Beeks, or Yarbrough per se, but instead with the role they’re asked to try out.
Before the Glasnow injury, the Sun rays filled their five rotation areas with three traditional starters (who they still aggressively limited innings the load for), and three mass guys for the last two spots. Getting the excess bulk guy allowed Kevin Cash to apportion innings a lot more efficiency to take advantage of form plus matchup, and limit the publicity and workload of all of their pitchers.
Now, with five pitchers filling five slots (and the busy schedule coming up), everyone has to do more, all down and up the rotation.
What the Rays require is another pitcher at a similar degree to their existing bulk guys to enable them to go back to a fluid assignment associated with roles. There are a lot of pitchers in the little league who can turn over a lineup as soon as, or on occasion twice.
Lemme simply call out one I’ve enjoyed for a while–the Tigers’ Blaine Hardy–with the understanding that there are many interesting hands in baseball, and I trust in the particular Rays’ opponent scouting to know all of them better than I do.
First check out this particular movement graph from 2018.
Blaine Hardy, 2018Four-seam fastball with more than 10 inches of rise? Examine. Two-seam style changeup with darting armside movment? Check. Big, 12-6 curve? Check. Hard cutter that will falls off the table in one type, or scoots off the sweet section of the bat in another? Well… that is kind of the issue. Nothing here is difficult.
Hardy has movement to burn off, but his fastball averaged 88 mph, and that cutter averaged 84 mph. He didn’t make the majors until he was 27, and didn’t start until last year, at 31, but he did remarkably okay at that, pitching a minimum of five innings nine times. Nevertheless he probably shouldn’t start.
What exactly do you call a guy who can certainly go three innings but that really shouldn’t go seven?
Blaine HardyPhoto by Stacy Revere/Getty Pictures

Hardy just returned from a forearm strain of his own, and has not pitched great. He’s under group control for two more years, and it is not a part of Detroit’s future. He or she should come cheap.
Also, there are a great number of guys like him in the world. There is reason for the Rays to get in times where they need Yarbrough and Beeks to go seven innings back-to-back.
Dominik Vega: James Shields. Danny totally convinced me that I want your pet back.
Editor’s Note: JT continues to be saying no . Let it be identified that he does not endorse this get. The man is consistent.
Danny Russell:…

Adam Sanford: The Mets come with an interesting arm in Wilmer Typeface.
Editor’s note: Thanks, Adam.
